4 Heating and Cooling Tips for Spring

4 Heating and Cooling Tips for Spring

Temperatures are getting warmer, and it won’t be long before you’re about to switch off the heat and turn on the air conditioning (if you haven’t already gotten to that point). To ensure that the warmer weather doesn’t rain on your parade, here are a few things you need to do to ensure that your home’s AC unit is ready to keep you cool this spring and summer:

1. Switch on Your AC for a Quick Inspection

Before the first heat wave strikes, you’ll want to turn on your air conditioner to make sure that it is working as it should. While it may be difficult to tell whether or not the air is as cold as you’ll need it in the summer, you will be able to tell if there are any major problems with the unit.

For example, if the air isn’t cool at all or you hear strange noises that don’t seem to disappear after the unit has warmed up, you’ll want to contact us at Kimbro Air to schedule an appointment for an expert inspection.

2. De-Clutter So Your Unit Can Breathe

It isn’t uncommon to pile things up in front of and around your AC unit when it is not in use. That’s valuable space that can be used to store things during the winter.

We're offering 0 percent financing for 72 months when we install a Daikin HVAC units.

However, with spring almost here and summer not too far behind, you’ll need to de-clutter the area so that there is open space around the unit. Like you, your unit needs to breathe. Otherwise, it may not work properly and could prematurely fail.

3. Clean or Change Dirty Filters

Depending on the type of unit and air filter you have, you may be able to take out the filter, clean it and put it back in. More often than not, though, you’ll just need to remove the old, dirty filter and replace it with a brand new one.

Dirty and clogged filters cause the airflow to be restricted, which means it won’t run efficiently. Keep in mind that the Department of Energy says you should change your filters once every three months at a minimum.

4. Consider Getting a Programmable Thermostat

If you’re tired of spending an arm and a leg to cool your house in the summer, it may be time to talk to us at Kimbro Air about the installation of a programmable thermostat. This type of thermostat will allow you to schedule when the home’s temperature should be lowered or raised.
